Today we pause and take a moment to appreciate…

The Arsonist! Creating jobs in construction, forensics, insurance (and of course — firefighting) since time immemorial.

The Reckless Driver! Forever driving not only a scratched and dented vehicle, but also demand for ER nurses, trauma specialists, traffic cops, and driving school instructors.

The Person Who Actually RESPONDS to Telemarketing! Our eternal thanks to you for justifying the world’s most beloved industry.

The Polluter of Parks, Sidewalks, Oceans, and Rainforests! An army of street-sweepers, soil acidity and food-toxicity researchers, sanitation workers, and Greenpeace activists are counting on you for employment.

The Abusive Parent and The Schoolyard Bully! Where would all our beloved psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, addiction therapists, and domestic violence prevention and recovery specialists be without your job-creating behavior?

The Writer of Overly Complicated Tax Legislation! Think of the legions of lawyers, regulators, compliance officers, lobbyists, and accountants, not to mention the attendant clerks, office managers, customer support specialists, and H&R Block TV, search, social, print, radio, billboard and magazine advertising designers who would be without work if it weren’t for your simple competence.

The Person Who Refuses to Read Even the Most Obvious Instructions! Thousands of customer support specialists thank you daily for their gainful employment.

The Fast Food Merchant! Arousing a never-ended howl for personal trainers, dietitians, cardiologists, treadmill manufacturers, and of course body-positivity activists.

And let’s not forget… The City That Has Not Yet Installed Automatic Toll Booths! Oh the bounties you provide…

All work is good work. We as a human society have no higher calling than to CREATE JOBS. Let us step back, reflect, and give thanks to all the job creators out there.

Keep ’em coming!
